French President Jacques Chirac has sent a "calming letter" to European
Union (EU) leaders unsettled by the French people's rejection of the
Union's proposed constitution.
Chirac reminded the importance of France as one of the founding fathers
of the EU in his letter to the leaders of the 24 member countries. The
Paris government will continue to preserve its place within the Union
the President assured. Early this week, he called European leaders on
the phone and reiterated the French determination to stick with the EU. |

The majority of Dutch voters rejected the EU constitution referendum on Wednesday. 37 % of Dutches also said Yes in the referendum. After the French referendum, Netherlands is second country of reject this constitution. All EU countries must accept this constution before October 2006 to come into force. |

The starting bell has rung for the start of the latest round of the contest between Microsoft and the EU commission over anti trust issues. The commissioner concerned, Neelie Kroes, had become tired of waiting for Microsoft to make proposals for meeting the EU's requirements and had given them a deadline of Tuesday midnight - it seems the documents containing those proposals arrived with minutes to spare. |
