Russia Asks Price Increase in Natural Gas Print E-mail
Turkey and Russia continue bargaining over natural gas. The Russian side reportedly asked from Ankara to increase the natural gas prices as of 1 January 2006.
It is claimed a possible price increase in natural gas will not be accepted since the price of natural gas is already considered to be “expensive.” A report prepared by Botas for the Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler revealed Turkey consumed 14 billion cubic meters of natural gas at the end of October. This was the total amount of natural gas consumption last year. At the end of the year, Turkey's total amount of natural gas imports will expectedly reach 17 billion cubic meters. The report said no natural gas was stored underground and the demand increase in the winter months is being met by getting more natural gas than the amount stated in the agreement.
