Sale of Turkish Telecom Timely Print E-mail
Avea General Manager Cuneyt Turktan, the successor of Cahit Paksoy, noted "a new synergy will be created" and a better quality service will be given to the customers with the mergence of Turkish Telecom (TT) landlines and Avea. Emphasizing Avea has a bright future, Turktan said they will make the company have a stance in Turkey. Turktan expressed he made great efforts in ensuring Oger's interest in TT and its privatization, admitting TT was sold at a good price and timely following a transparent process.

"Privatizations have been delayed in Turkey hitherto either due to a lack of legal infrastructure or due to political reasons. Oger was interested in the tender since the very beginning. It finally purchased TT successfully," told Turktan stressing Oger Telecom had an assertive entry in the sector and that it will take other steps in the region in the field of Telecom.

After the handover of shares during TT's privatization process, Avea ex-General Manager Cahit Paksoy resigned from his position in order to help the "determination of the new administration". The head of Oger's Zapp Telemobil Company in Romania, Cuneyt Turktan, was appointed as Avea Genaral Manager after Paksoy left. Turktan made some evaluations about his new duty in Bucharest for Zaman. Emphasizing on the active telecom market and young population in Turkey, Turktan explained: "In addition to talk, we need fast communication. Considering these, I see a bright market ahead of us in Turkey . In this new process, we are thinking of starting a reconstruction period in the telecom sector and innovations in Avea." Upon the question, "Will Avea and TT be united in a single operator just like it is the case in Italy?" Turktan replied, “They will make cooperation in some common issues as it is the case in the whole world.” Indicating there has been a general activation and mobility in the telecom companies since the year 2005, Turktan noted, "We see examples of this in Poland, Slovakia and Romania. I mean, important changes and handovers took place in the field of telecom. I believe this mobility will continue."

Turktan reckons TT's privatization will increase the demands for Telsim. Underlining there are many applications for the sales of Telsim, "There is confidence in Turkey. There is a positive view about privatization. So, I believe it will be a very transparent and good privatization. There are many good candidates. A quality investor who will purchase Telsim will contribute to the development of the telecom sector in Turkey. The public will benefit from this in the end," the general manager added.
