Spaniards: Turkey is Haven for Foreign Investment |

Juan Martinez Moreno, the Spanish Undersecretary for Economy and Trade,
said even though Turkey suffered from political and economic
instability until a few years ago, it is now a haven for direct foreign
investments.
According to Moreno since privatizations are
accomplished with a high success rate in Turkey, new foreign
investments will increase by the end of 2005. Turkish and Spanish
businessmen came together in Istanbul Tuesday to talk about cooperation.
The Spanish undersecretary said Turkey possesses a series of advantages
including its strategic location, the Customs Union Agreement signed
with the European Union in 1996, a large domestic market, various
industrial sectors, and competitive labor force; and all of these have
turned the country into a number one market for foreign investors.
Turkey has now, Moreno emphasized, as many foreign companies as the
last 20 years combined. Ways for Turkey to develop even more include
adherence to prudent economic politics and sustaining common objectives
with the European Union. “The Spanish people can share these
experiences with their Turkish equals because they have gone down the
same path.” Moreno said.
During the meetings, Turkish and
Spanish businessmen discussed such issues as the environment,
construction, urbanization, technical education equipment, as well as
financial and certification services. |
