German vice chancellor Franz Muentefering on Wednesday in Berlin participated the German President Horst Köhler's new year reception at the Bellevue Palace and answered IHA reporters' questions about EU-Turkey relations.

We defend that Turkey has to take its perspective for EU. However nowadays there are a EU crisis rises because of the European constitution. The widen project of the EU is formed an anxiety for European countries. This will change and European people will come to fit that situation. We need this. Turkey is a very important opportunity both for European countries and us".

Muentefering also stressed that "Turkey's EU membership term will be long and I think that term will cross 2009. Countries have to help eachother about the political issues and have to help eachother. There were some problems occured during the EU membership term of Spain and Portugal. So we can say that this is normal for Turkey. Widen projects of Turkey will always be to Germany's advantage."
