Five teachers were exiled in the southeastern city of Mersin for
teaching the theory of evolution, which is believed to have shaken the
religious beliefs of their students. The city's governor, who exiled the teachers, had denied reasons behind the move and blamed it on violations of clothing regulations and other irregularities. Also in edcuation, the Education Ministry has hammered out a new formula to allow graduates of imam-hatip Islamic cleric-training schools to study in universities. According to current regulations, graduates of imam-hatip cleric-training schools have to study only in the Theology Faculties of universities. The Education Ministry however is trying to by-pass this restriction by permitting imam-hatip students to study in distance high-schools |
