Heart Attack Kills 1.9M Brain Cells in a Minute Print E-mail
Scientists noted 1.9 million brain cells (neurons) die in one minute during a heart attack, since the oxygen flow to brain is interrupted and the brain ages 3.6 years per hour.

Dr. Jeffrey L. Saver, a member of the reseach team at the University of California, said any delays in intervention and treatment make the brain damage worse.

Saver pointed out the number of neurons which die during a heart attack has not been determined until recently; former data as well as research improved with neuroimaging techniques allowed them to determine the number of dead brain cells.
