Number of AIDS Patients Surpasses 40 Million |

The World Health Organization (WHO) noted that according to a 2005 AIDS report the number of AIDS patients has surpassed 40,000,000 worldwide.
Approximately 3.1 million people have died of AIDS this year; the number of HIV infected people in Turkey is more than 2,000. According to the report, the number of infections of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, has recently increased among women and children. |

Eight earthquake survivors in Kashmiri Pakistan have reportedly died due to heavy winter conditions. The news in media confirmed the deaths as doctors warned if proper sheltering is not provided, conditions of the survivors will be worsen. Pneumonia, hypothermia, and other respiratory system diseases caused more than 700 people to be hospitalized. |

In the aftermath of reports that the US Central Intelligence Agency had established secret jails for torture in Europe, tension between the US and the European Union (EU) has escalated.
While preparing for next week’s European tour, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice avoided commenting on reports relating to the secret torture jails. The US should take precautionary measures before terror acts are undertaken, she justified. |

The price of one ounce of gold (31.10 gr) attained an 18-year high on world markets and the Istanbul Gold Exchange; it was traded for $498 early in the week. Experts explain the $100 rise in the span of one year by reference to uncertainties about currencies. Goldas Executive Board Member Cetin Binatli notes that gold came to be accepted as a medium of exchange, and explains that the surge drew from the non-rising Euro interest rates and uncertainty about the Dollar interest rates. |

This newest addition to the numerous Google services would be launched at Google’s Froogle shopping website on Tuesday. This service will help its users pinpoint the merchants selling a certain item within a designated zip code by providing a map. |
