The historic final match of UEFA Champions League between Italian's Milan and British Liverpool on May 25 night in Istanbul Ataturk Olympic Stadium has been credited with breaking much new ground. About three billion from 200 countries watched the game.

BBC: Best game you've ever seen?

An internet poll on the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) website asks "Was Liverpool v AC Milan the best game you have ever seen?" In the unofficial poll, 74 percent of 110,000 British football fans answered 'yes'.

Highest score of last 43 years

The final match also made football history for the number of goals scored. Not since 1962 have so many goals been scored, then in the match in Amsterdam, football fans saw eight goals as Benfica defeated Real Madrid by 5-3.

Authorities impressed

UEFA President Lennart Johansson expressed pleasure with the organization, saying he will support Turkey for its 2012 Europe Footbal Championship hosting bid. Liverpool Technical Director Benitex added the atmosphere was magnificant.

The match at the Ataturk Olympic stadium was a breathtaker and the crowd was treated to an unlikely number of goals. At half time Milan looked certain to have wrapped it up at 3-0. Liverpool then levelled the game in an astonishing six minutes in the second half and went on to win the penalty shoot out by 3-2. Winning the cup for the fifth time, Liverpool get to keep the trophy. After the match, Istanbul Ataturk Olympic Stadium won praise from UEFA delegations, the Organization Committee and the fans of the two teams.
