Google, which just bought stake in AOL for $1 billion has a new plan.
The search engine giant will now have their own brand of PC’s and sell
the systems in a partnership with Wal-Mart. They systems will not have the Windows Operating System. The deal is expected to be announced by Friday. The source of the information is unnamed. Google co-founder Larry Paige’s speech at a Vegas Consumer Electronics Show is expected to discuss the new system. An investment house, Bear Stearns, claimed in December that Google was preparing the new system. The new system apparently will have Google’s own operating system. It’s expected to be Linux based. Of course, Google will have a lot of competition in this new arena, including Microsoft’s Windows system. It’s unlikely that Google’s system will be able to unseat top-dog Microsoft in the software market for operating systems, any more than Apple or Linux have. A low-cost computer system isn’t a bad idea, and has been tried before- and failed. Yet, the other markets haven’t had the resources that are available to Google, including Google’s wealth. If Google goes ahead with this plan, the jury is still out on how successful it will be- or even the true motives behind it. By Susan Evans Jump2Top.Com Search Engine Optimization Company |
