Preparing for the holiday season shopping rush, Internet search engine giant Google Inc. is adding a new tool designed to assist consumers with map of their local mall tours.

This newest addition to the numerous Google services would be launched at Google’s Froogle shopping website on Tuesday. This service will help its users pinpoint the merchants selling a certain item within a designated zip code by providing a map. According to Marissa Mayer, the Google director of consumer products, the Mountain View company developed this tool to avoid consumers traveling to the local stores when an item is no longer on their product list.

At first, Google depended on a contractor to obtain the inventory information from thousands of local merchants. However, the search engine company encourages the local stores to submit their own product lists to the Google Base.

“Froogle will pull the product inventory lists from Google Base and include them in its index,” Mayer stated.

The comparison-shopping site Froogle, which was launched in 2003, will still provide its online visitors to buy merchandises through the Internet. Google Inc. receives a fair commission for the online referrals.

In preparation to the busiest shopping season, other shopping-comparison websites have been developing their own tools of luring shoppers. Yahoo! Inc. recently stretched its shopping site list to 90 million products compared to 60 million last year.
