Water shortage grips many districts of Baghdad as the water treatment
plant being sabotaged, forcing Iraqis turn to unhealthy sources.
Iraqi bottled water distributors said that the water they distributed
wasn't fresh. Water in plastic bottles are being stored in unhealthy
conditions like the water station in Jemila district of Baghdad. A station worker Muhammad Yusuf said,” Bottled water comes from Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Jordan. The places where the water is stored are unhealthy; they are exposed to the sunlight. They are way past expiration date" . He stated that they distribute water that is expired to Iraqis who do not have water supplies and added, "Water in demijohns lose their freshness, and they are sold on half price. Sometimes we give water free of charge to Iraqis in some districts." Abu Sayf Muhammad, an Iraqi distributing bottled water, said, "We distribute water in various districts of Baghdad. We are doing it since the Saddam era". |
